Fixed vs. Adjustable-Angle — Which to Choose
| Feature | Fixed Angle | Adjustable Angle |
|---|---|---|
| Light direction | Straight down, fixed at install | Each head aims independently |
| Best suited for | General ambient and task lighting | Accent and wall-wash lighting |
| Ceiling look | Uniform, symmetrical line | Directional, gallery-style appearance |
| Flexibility | Set at installation | Can be re-aimed after installation |
Narrow Body (GS6615) vs. Wide Body (GS6618)
The LineaGrid series comes in two body widths, both carrying the same head counts and wattages.
| Feature | GS6615 (Narrow) | GS6618 (Wide) |
|---|---|---|
| Body width | 45 mm | 59 to 60 mm |
| Cutout width | 35 to 37 mm | 50 mm |
| Best suited for | Tight ceiling cavities, minimal aperture | Larger aperture, more prominent fixture |
Choose GS6615 where the ceiling slot needs to stay as narrow as possible. Choose GS6618 where a slightly wider aperture is acceptable or preferred for the design.
Choosing the Right Beam Angle
The LineaGrid offers two optic types, each with three selectable angles.
Reflector optic (default 30°):
- 15°: Very tight spot for long-throw accent lighting or highlighting small objects.
- 30°: Standard accent and task beam, the most common choice.
- 45°: Wider accent for broader wall-wash or general ambient use.
Lens optic (default 24°):
- 15°: Narrow spot for concentrated accent lighting.
- 24°: Standard medium beam for task and ambient use.
- 38°: Wider distribution for softer, more general coverage.
For accent lighting on walls or artwork, narrower beams (15° or 24°) create a more defined, dramatic effect. For general ambient use across a room, 38° or 45° spreads reduce the number of fixtures needed.
Choosing the Right Color Temperature
- 2700K: Warm white, cozy and inviting, ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, and hospitality.
- 3000K: Soft white, warm but slightly crisper, popular for kitchens and retail.
- 3500K: Neutral white, balanced and versatile, suits offices and multi-purpose spaces.
- 4000K: Cool white, clean and alert, common in commercial and gallery environments.
- 5000K: Daylight, bright and energizing, suited to task-heavy commercial areas.
The 5CCT switch lets you set the color temperature at install, so one SKU covers an entire project.
Choosing the Right Head Count
Each head delivers 2W. Multi-head models multiply that: a 6-head unit runs at 2×6W (12W total), a 15-head unit at 2×15W (30W total).
- 1 to 3 heads: Short runs for small accent zones, alcoves, or corridor segments.
- 5 to 6 heads: Medium runs for kitchen islands, shelving, or feature walls up to about 175 mm.
- 10 to 12 heads: Longer runs for hallways, retail shelving, or extended wall-wash spans.
- 15 heads: Maximum length for wide ceiling runs or high-intensity accent zones.
Multiple units can be installed end-to-end to create a continuous line where a single unit is not long enough.
Where to Use It and Layout Tips
- Hallways and corridors: A linear grille running along the ceiling length creates a clean, architectural detail with even downlighting.
- Kitchens: Fixed-angle units over counters and islands for focused task lighting.
- Living rooms: Adjustable-angle units to direct light toward walls, artwork, or furniture groupings.
- Retail and commercial: Multiple units in parallel rows give broad, even coverage with a discreet ceiling profile.
- Galleries and hospitality: Adjustable-angle units with narrow beam angles create precise accent spots for artwork and displays.
For wall-wash applications, position the fixture 300 to 500 mm from the wall and use the adjustable-angle version with a 30° to 45° beam to create an even gradient. For task lighting over a surface, position directly above the work area and use a 24° to 30° beam.
Dimming and Installation Notes
- Use a dimmer rated for LED loads and confirm compatibility before installation.
- Verify the ceiling cutout dimensions against your chosen model before cutting. Narrow body (GS6615) cutout widths range from 35 to 37 mm; wide body (GS6618) cutout widths are 50 mm across all head counts.
- Fixture height is 40 to 50 mm depending on model. Confirm sufficient ceiling cavity depth before cutting.
- For adjustable-angle units, set the aiming angle before securing the fixture in the ceiling.
- Installation should be completed by a qualified electrician in accordance with local electrical codes.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between GS6615 and GS6618?
GS6615 has a 45 mm body width and a 35 to 37 mm cutout. GS6618 has a 59 to 60 mm body width and a 50 mm cutout. Both carry the same head counts, wattages, and options.
Can I mix fixed and adjustable-angle heads in one installation?
The fixed and adjustable versions are separate models. You can install both types in the same ceiling, but they are ordered separately.
How much total wattage does a 15-head unit draw?
30W (2W per head × 15 heads).
Can units be installed end-to-end for a longer run?
Yes. Multiple units can be positioned end-to-end to extend the light line beyond the maximum single-unit length.
What reflector color should I choose?
Black and Shiny Black reflectors create more contrast and drama, emphasizing the beam against the ceiling. White and Silver reflectors blend more naturally with light-colored ceilings. Gold adds a warm tint to the light output.
