Choosing the Right Length
- 24-inch: Suited to single-sink vanities with mirrors up to about 28 inches wide. A 24-inch bar provides even coverage without overhanging the mirror edges on most single vanity configurations.
- 33-inch: Better suited to wider single vanities (30 to 36 inches) or as a single bar above a double vanity with a shared mirror. The longer bar gives more even coverage per linear foot and allows the light to wrap slightly around the face when viewed from a slight angle.
As a general rule, choose a bar that is close to or slightly shorter than the mirror width for a proportional look. A bar wider than the mirror can create hotspots and is rarely preferred aesthetically.
Choosing the Right Finish
- Matte Black: Creates strong contrast against white, cream, and light-toned tile, cabinetry, and fixtures. Coordinates with matte black faucets, towel bars, and toilet hardware in contemporary and transitional bathrooms.
- Chrome: Polished chrome coordinates with chrome faucets, showerheads, and towel bars in classic and contemporary bathrooms. Reflects light to add brightness in smaller spaces, which can be particularly useful in powder rooms and tight vanity alcoves.
Both finishes use the same frosted white glass diffuser and integrated LED module, so the light quality and output are identical. The choice is purely aesthetic.
Why 3000K for Vanity Lighting?
The Lumen Line uses a fixed 3000K warm white color temperature, which is intentional for vanity applications. Here is why 3000K works well for grooming:
- 3000K light is close to the color temperature of incandescent bulbs, which most people find naturally flattering. It reduces the appearance of harsh skin shadows and provides a comfortable environment for extended grooming sessions.
- Cooler temperatures (4000K to 5000K) can make skin tones look slightly blue or washed out in a mirror, particularly on light skin tones, which is uncomfortable for makeup application.
- 3000K is also close to the color temperature of natural morning light indoors, which is when most grooming occurs.
If your project requires a different CCT for the vanity zone, see the Serra LED Wall Light in the C&C Lighting range, which includes a 3CCT selectable option.
Mounting Positions
- Above the mirror: The most common installation. Mount the bar horizontally above the top edge of the mirror. Position the bottom edge of the fixture approximately 75 to 80 inches from the floor for standard ceiling heights to place the light above head height without casting excessive downward shadows.
- Beside the mirror: One bar on each side of the mirror provides the most even, shadow-free illumination for professional makeup application. The slim linear form reads cleanly in this position, and the 24-inch bar fits most standard mirror heights in portrait orientation.
Installation Notes
- The fixture wall-mounts via the included hardware to a standard electrical box positioned above or beside the mirror. Ensure the box is positioned before ordering.
- Rated for 120V input. Confirm your wall circuit is 120V before installation.
- The integrated LED module is not user-replaceable. The fixture is replaced as a unit at end of LED life.
- The spec sheet does not list a wet or damp location rating. Install in dry bathroom zones away from direct water spray. Confirm zone requirements with your electrician under the Canadian Electrical Code.
- Installation should be completed by a qualified electrician in accordance with local electrical codes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the color temperature adjustable?
No. The Lumen Line uses a fixed 3000K warm white LED module. If you need a selectable CCT, see the Serra LED Wall Light in the C&C Lighting range, which includes 3000K, 4000K, and 5000K options via an onboard switch.
Can this be installed in a shower zone or directly above an open shower?
The spec sheet does not list a damp or wet location rating. Install in dry bathroom zones only. Confirm the installation zone rating requirements with your electrician before mounting.
Which length should I choose for a double vanity?
For a double-sink vanity (typically 60 to 72 inches wide) with a shared mirror, a 33-inch single bar centered above each sink section is a common approach, or a single 33-inch bar centered above the full mirror. For per-sink precision, two 24-inch bars above each sink provides the most even individual coverage.
Is the LED replaceable?
No. The 24W LED module is integrated into the fixture and is not user-replaceable. It is maintenance-free for the rated lifespan. The fixture is replaced as a unit at end of life.
Does the frosted glass diffuser affect light output?
The frosted diffuser softens and spreads the LED output, which reduces lumen output compared to a clear lens but eliminates visible hot spots and glare. For vanity use, this is the preferable trade-off since even, shadow-free light across the face is more important than maximum raw brightness.
