How the Sky Effect Works

In the atmosphere, shorter wavelengths such as blue and violet scatter more strongly than red, which is why a clear sky looks blue. The Cielo Mini uses nano-structured optics to reproduce that Rayleigh scattering effect in a recessed ceiling panel, producing an azure sky tone.

A 30° forward-projection beam then throws angled light across the nearest wall, like sunlight slanting through a real skylight.

Unlike a fixed-color panel, the Cielo Mini is tunable from 1600K to 8000K. Run the warm glow of sunrise in the morning, the cool blue of midday, and the amber of sunset in the evening, with dimming to match.

Light Direction and Wall Placement

Where you place the Cielo Mini relative to a wall controls where the angled light lands. Face the light outlet toward a wall to avoid strong direct light. Three measurements matter:

  • M: the distance from the lamp to the wall. A distance of less than 1.7 m is recommended.
  • H: the distance from the upper edge of the projected light to the ceiling.
  • N: the height of the lit area on the wall, which is determined by H.

The relationship between the two placement values is M = 1.7 x H. For example, to start the lit area 30 cm below the ceiling, place the lamp about 51 cm from the wall. Adjust the distance from the wall (M) to move the lit area up or down.
